Due to unforeseen renovation works, the Johor Zoo’s reopening, which was originally scheduled for this month, has been pushed back to August.

The chairman of the State Housing and Local Government Committee, Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, stated that the RM1.1 million in additional works was the reason for the delay.

“The consultants and contractors faced three unexpected technical issues several months ago, resulting in a longer completion time,” he said after visiting several houseowners affected by water supply disruptions in Felda Bukit Permai.

The issue includes replacing outdated plumbing and electrical systems, repairing damaged pool walls, and constructing separate sewage pipes for each animal enclosure.

The state government declared on 12th February that when the Johor Zoo reopens in April after the renovations, its ticket prices will remain the lowest in Malaysia.

The nation’s oldest zoo, at 12.5-hectare, is situated in the centre of Johor Bahru and was founded in 1928. It is home to over 100 different animal species.
