The Johor Government welcomes the launch of the National Education Plan 2026-2035, announced by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier this week, and sees it as a strategic step towards strengthening the country’s education system.
Aznan Tamin, chairman of the Johor Education and Information Committee, through his official Facebook page’s post, has stated that the implementation of learning measurement for Year Four beginning in 2026 and Form Three beginning in 2027 for core subjects, enables earlier identification of students’ mastery levels, allowing for immediate intervention to ensure that no students drop out.
“This approach is consistent with the state government’s commitment to producing globally competitive students while recognising the local context through the international-standard Student Competency Assessment, which will be implemented at Johor Nation Pioneer Schools (Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor),” he said.
He added that the state government also fully supports the allocation of RM100 million to upgrade and renovate teachers’ rooms across the country, including in Johor, which adds value to existing initiatives that have been implemented in the state since 2023.
“The Ministry of Higher Education’s restructuring of Form Six and Matriculation, which begins in 2027, makes pre-university pathways clearer and more structured, giving students more confidence in deciding their academic path after school.”
“The empowerment of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through digitalisation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in polytechnics and community colleges is consistent with the Johor Talent Development Council’s (JTDC) role in producing a high-income skilled workforce and supporting the development of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone,” Aznan continues.
He then stated that the state government will continue to work closely with the federal government through the Ministry of Education Malaysia and the Ministry of Higher Education to ensure that every education plan is effectively implemented and provides tangible benefits to the people, particularly Johor children.
