Datuk Radzi Jidin, Senior Minister of Education, stated that the face-to-face school session will be held on the 3rd of October based on research and observations from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) and the National Security Council (NSC). The face-to-face learning session, which was slated to resume on the 1st of September was rescheduled to the 3rd of October 2021.
The ministry has stated, however, that it will be executed in accordance with the new phase stipulations two weeks after the phase transition date. Based on the ruling on the operation of educational institutions for the state Phase 2 in the National Recovery Plan (NRP), the opening of educational institutions under the Ministry of Education (MOE) for Johor will begin on the 10th of October 2021.
Why do schools in Johor start later?
Johor’s new move to Phase 2 of the NRP on 24th September and the operation of educational institutions under the MOE stipulates that schools will only open after two weeks from the date of the phase transition.
Chairman of the Johor Education, Information, Heritage and Culture Committee, Mazlan Bujang, said confusions arose when some parents of students in the state contacted their respective schools for clarification.
How would it work?
He said, according to the schedule announced by the MOE, students in Johor will continue their learning through the learning and teaching at home (PdPR) system, while only pupils and students from certain classes and levels will start returning to school on 10th October.
Which schools are opening as Johor moves to Phase 2?
Schools are reported as not opening in states under Phase 1 of the NRP, while in Phase 2 states, primary schools are only open for students with special needs in Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas (SKPK) and students in the Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI), while for secondary schools in Phase 2, only involves students of Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) semester two.
For Phase 3 states, apart from SKPK and PPKI, pre-school students will be allowed to attend school, while for secondary schools, it involves Form Five students and other STPM candidates.
For Phase 4 states, pupils and students will be allowed to go to school in stages.
