Johor recorded a 4.36 State-level National Average Grade (GPN) in the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations; its best achievement in the past five years and it has also exceeded the National GPN level for five consecutive years at 4.49.
“A lower GPN value indicates better candidate performance in the SPM examinations,” State Education Department director Mohd Hanafi Samad explained.
“The state’s SPM GPN index has surpassed the national GPN achievement, which is 4.49,” he said in a press conference to announce the results at the Johor Education Department (Jabatan Pendidikan Johor)’s headquarters in Bandar Baru Uda.
Mohd Hanafi went on to say that this result was the best Johor had achieved in the previous five years, according to an analysis of SPM results from 2020 to 2023.
40,266 students, or more than 94%, were eligible to receive their SPM certificates out of the 43,176 students who registered for the 2024 exams, he said.
“Approximately 1,513 candidates in Johor received excellent 2024 SPM results; 41 of them received all-A+ grades, which is twice as many as the 20 candidates who received all-A+ grades in 2023,” he continued.
He said that a total of 41 SPM 2024 candidates in the state achieved excellent A+ results in all subjects, compared to 20 candidates in 2023.
Meanwhile, he said, a total of 1,513 SPM candidates managed to obtain excellent results of grades A+, A and A- in all subjects they sat, compared to 1,247 candidates in 2023.
