The Johor government has tabled a state budget of RM2.546 billion for 2026, up from RM1.999 billion last year, making it the highest in state’s history. The budget prioritises ensuring Johoreans’ well-being and strengthening the state’s finances.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi stated that the state’s projected revenue will increase to RM2.55 billion, making it one of Malaysia’s strongest financial foundations and surpassing the original Budget 2025 projection.
“This means that the Johor Budget 2026 has a surplus of RM4.45 million,” Onn Hafiz stated while presenting Johor’s Budget 2026 to the Johor State Legislative Assembly.
He credited this to disciplined fiscal management and effective state economic strategies.
“The economy and performance of Johor are very encouraging. It is now on solid ground, with state revenue reaching RM2.55 billion, boosted by increased zakat collections, local authority revenue, the Johor Housing Development Corporation, and profits from state-linked companies.”
Onn Hafiz stated that the state budget, themed “A Prosperous Johor People,” is in line with the state’s six key pillars and includes 260 initiatives for social, economic, and people’s well-being development.
He added that over the last three years and six months, Johor has attracted RM218 billion in investments and created over 64,000 job opportunities while maintaining a low unemployment rate of 2.3%.
Furthermore, its 6.4% GDP growth and RM27.2 billion agricultural sector sales were the highest in Malaysia.
“This increase in revenue not only reflects Johor’s economic strength, but it also demonstrates that every policy and initiative implemented has yielded tangible benefits for the people,” he stated.
He also stated that the state government is dedicated to maintaining this growth momentum by implementing development plans based on strategic investments, innovation, and inclusive prosperity by 2026.
