The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), Johor chapter is targeting RM15 million in sales at its travel fair from the 23rd to the 24th of July and 5th to 7th Aug, after being postponed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Johor MATTA deputy chairman, Kathryn Lee said the fair would offer various attractive packages including domestic tourism for as low as RM100 for two days and one night.

She said they target over 5,000 visitors at the fair which will be held at The Summit Mall, Batu Pahat, Johor in July and at Austin International Convention Centre (AICC), Johor Bahru in August, respectively.

“We hope that the Johor MATTA Fair this year will have a good response towards reactivating the tourism sector, whether domestically or internationally, following two years of the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said during a news conference held at the Johor MATTA office, here.

Meanwhile, Johor MATTA chairman K. Subramaniam mentioned that traffic congestion, particularly in Johor Bahru, may have an impact on tourist arrivals.

He stated that they had received complaints about the issue, particularly during local tour package promotions, such as arriving late at night at their hotels due to severe traffic congestion.

“They also complained on Facebook and other social media platforms,” he continued and hopefully a solution may be reached.
