Johor state has gathered together over 50 industry executives and higher learning institutions across the state for the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC) Industry Engagement Day to sit down and negotiate the implementation of a large-scale curriculum shift to correspond with the genuine needs of the labour market.
Aznan Tamin, chairman of the Johor Education and Information Committee, said that there are plans to establish an Industry Advisory Board comprised of international companies and industry leaders at every education and skills institution in Johor. This large-scale initiative is the first of its kind in the country.
“As part of the JTDC and Johor State Government’s major effort to create 10,000 high-income jobs by 2025, we are pleased to announce that JTDC has identified the first cohort to receive this benefit.”
JTDC will officially launch the first structured and systematic Data Centre Technician Programme on 1st March 2025, through Johor Skills College in collaboration with Lead Future Holding, to fill 200 identified job vacancies with job security, with salaries ranging from RM3,500 to RM4,000 for a minimum diploma qualification.
JTDC is developing a Data Centre Academy in collaboration with Johor Skills, Johor Skills College, and numerous other institutes. The academy will be sponsored by, among others, Microsoft Company and EPI Singapore, a world-leading training institute in digital and technology.
JTDC has selected 510 existing TVET employees who will benefit from an income improvement under the Pro-Mahir upskilling programme.
“By improving their respective skills, all 510 employees will enjoy a salary increase from around RM2,000/month currently to RM3,000-3,500/month upon completion of the programme.”
More initiatives like this in the near future are said to be announced.
“Johor not only wants to see more of its people working, but working in high-quality careers, earning better incomes, and having a brighter future,” said Aznan.
