More than 4,000 households at Medan Niaga Kampung Melayu Majidee have received RM200 food vouchers under Johor’s newly launched Baucar Kasih Johor pilot programme, an initiative inspired by Singapore’s community food centre model.

Menteri Besar Johor Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the programme is aimed at easing the cost-of-living burden on residents while supporting local traders and hawkers. The vouchers can be used at participating stalls within the food centre.

The pilot project, launched at Medan Niaga Kampung Melayu Majidee in Johor Bahru, also seeks to improve the cleanliness, organisation and overall appeal of local community markets, similar to Singapore’s Geylang Serai model.

State officials said the initiative could be expanded to other local authorities across Johor if the pilot proves successful.

“It functions as a community hub in addition to being a restaurant, he said at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) meeting on 5th May 2026 at the Sultan Ismail Building in Iskandar Puteri, Johor adding, “We want to emulate the concept at Medan Niaga Kampung Melayu Majidee,” as reported by Berita Harian Malaysia.

As of 30th April 2026, Johor’s income hit RM1 billion, according to Onn Hafiz, who stated the state’s economic performance remained positive.

In comparison to the same period in 2025, this sum climbed by RM307 million, placing the state on a strong pace to meet its revenue targets in 2026.

According to him, the state’s success was fuelled by a number of significant accomplishments, such as the largest investment in the nation’s history, which not only demonstrated investors’ faith in Johor but also created tens of thousands of new jobs for the locals.

He stated that by putting Bantuan Kasih Johor’s fourth phase into action, the Johor government is further demonstrating its dedication to the welfare of its citizens.

It is anticipated that the total allocation would be beneficial to over 600,000 Johorians across the state.

Among the primary measures, he noted, are RM200 in monetary assistance to over 307,000 senior persons, RM200 to 136,000 women without jobs, and RM400 to 45,000 newlyweds.
