Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has developed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAS) system known as ‘JAGADrone’ for campus patrol and surveillance systems for security purposes.
JAGADrone is a technology initiative by UTM as a premier university in the field of technology to implement the use of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) technology in campus security and surveillance systems.
The JAGADrone system consists of remote communication, web-based control, cloud database and can be integrated with the existing Internet of Things (IoT) based guard patrol system platform, GuardExpert Pro, which has been implemented at the UTM campus for real-time management of terrestrial security patrol tracking operations real efficient.
This system will be able to realise the vision of future campus security by offering a comprehensive campus security solution. Additional capabilities in the form of surveillance and air patrols using these drones are very useful especially for large campuses such as UTM which have many hard-to-reach and high-risk locations.
JAGADrone will be the first responder to campus emergencies such as responding to panic alerts triggered from car apps by mobile devices carried by guards on duty or detecting campus boundary intrusions.
It also comes with features such as geofencing that can be operated and configured from a web browser system at the earth base station and is available in manual and automatic control modes.
Other features include eye-in-the-sky with real-time video and photo streaming, automatic return to charger pad, first aid kit transporter, eco-friendly with carbon-free and low-noise propulsion system.
The launch of JAGADrone was officiated by the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad on 26th April 2021 at the Senate Hall, UTM Johor Bahru Campus.
