In keeping up with global efforts towards sustainable development and reducing carbon emissions, Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) has announced a document exchange ceremony between IIB and seven different partners in the sustainable electric vehicle (EV) industry, to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy solutions in Iskandar Puteri.
“This effort is one of five key verticals designed to strengthen IIB’s commitment to leading the development of a Net-Zero Carbon Central Business District (CBD) in Medini Iskandar.” IIB said in a media statement.
Raven Kumar Krishnasamy, EXCO for Tourism, Environment, Heritage, and Culture in Johor State, attended the document exchange event. His involvement highlighted the state government’s continuous support and endorsement for the EV project, as well as the commitment of the Federal and State of Johor to the Low Carbon Initiative.
Raven, according to IIB’s statement said, “Today’s document exchange ceremony marks a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable development and a low-carbon future. This collaboration stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of IIB and its strategic partners as they work hand in hand to create a greener and more carbon-neutral Johor. We must now recognise the pressing need to address the challenges of carbon emissions and environmental degradation.

At the same event, President/Chief Executive Officer of IIB, Dato’ Idzham Mohd Hashim said, “We have outlined five strategic verticals in our roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality in Medini Iskandar which are energy management, water management, waste management, green building materials and of course, sustainable mobility.”
“Today, we are proud to lead the way in the first vertical, which is our commitment in advancing electric vehicle adoption and paving the way for clean energy solutions by having charging stations for EV vehicles. This document exchange ceremony signifies our dedication to creating a net-zero carbon city in Medini and establishing low-carbon cities as a global standard. By collaborating with key stakeholders, we leverage their expertise and resources to accelerate the growth of the EV industry, shaping a cleaner and more sustainable future where economic prosperity goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility,” he said.
Nano Malaysia Bhd, Handal Indah Sdn Bhd, Handal Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, Kumpool Sdn Bhd, Yinson Green Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd, GO TO U (M) Sdn Bhd, and UN Global Compact Network Malaysia and Brunei (UNGCMYB) are among the companies involved in the partnership.
“Such collective efforts are paramount in promoting sustainable transportation solutions that are environmentally friendly, socially equitable, and economically viable.” IIB said in its statement.
On top of that, IIB’s collaboration with UNGCMYB intends to collaboratively design and implement sustainable development initiatives in Iskandar Puteri in accordance with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The collaboration acts as a platform for IIB and other UNGCMYB members to share information and best practises. The relationship will grow into capacity-building efforts, such as training programmes, workshops, and seminars, to raise awareness and understanding of sustainable development principles.
These initiatives will incorporate local communities, civil society organisations, and government agencies in order to foster collaboration and address common challenges.

The organisation will gain a competitive edge by implementing sustainable practises into its development strategy, attracting sustainable investors, tenants, and partners.” IIB in a statement said.
Recognising the growing popularity of EVs in the state, the Johor state government intends to develop procedures that facilitate EV use in the future. Following Singapore’s strong drive for a complete EV population in its Green Plan 2030, a significant demand for EV charger stations has emerged in Johor.
The IIB programme will construct the infrastructure required for the transition to EVs, and it will play an essential role in the Federal and State of Johor’s Low Carbon initiatives.
The document exchange ceremony served as a pivotal platform for all involved parties to showcase their dedication to collaboration and lay the foundation for future partnerships.
