New Mexican restaurant set to add more variety to Johor’s F&B scene
With Johor Bahru’s already booming F&B scene, it’s a wonder if you can still find a new place to eat that will interest your food senses. Enter Havana, a newbie Mexican restaurant serving authentic Mexican food in Horizon Hills. The restaurant was opened by Stefan, an Italian Belarusian who has been staying in Johor for the past 4 years, and is passionate about food. “With 3 other restaurants and a wine bar in the vicinity, and a new Turkish restaurant set to open in another 2 months. I started these restaurants because there aren’t any like them in Johor. I have a passion for restaurants and food. I treat all my restaurants like my babies because this is what I love,” said Stefan.
We were invited to Havana during its grand opening, and although we didn’t get to sample its full menu, what we did get to sample was extremely delicious. Some of the dishes we tried were the Jalapeno Peppers with cream cheese, Beef Burritos, Chicken Chimichangas and Egg Canapés. My favourites among these were the Jalapeno Peppers with cream cheese and the Beef Burrito. The Jalapeno had the right amount of kick to it together with the grilled creamy cheese on top to just give it a good balance and not be too heavy as an appetizer, and the beef burrito, although could have had more stuffing, was nicely spiced as well. Honourable mention to the Egg Canapés which were deep fried with a layer of cheese on top. The entire menu has a decent range of food without it being overwhelming, which includes sandwiches with homemade bread, soups, tacos and many more.
If you’d like to indulge yourself in some Mexican goodness, Havana is open from Wednesdays – Sundays from 8.30 am – 10.30 pm. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. They have a breakfast menu as well if you’d like to have a quick bite before heading to work or on a weekend with the family. Havana is located at No 23, Jalan Hijauan 3, Horizon Hills, Johor Bahru.
