Every year, the Renaissance Hotel Johor Bahru hosts the Global Day of Discovery. This year, the lively, well-liked local evening market was brought to the lobby, where Discover This Way was on display to welcome the festive atmosphere.
The 10th anniversary of Global Day of Discovery adds to Renaissance Hotels’ celebration of localism with the launch of ‘R Finds’, a smartphone application of global digital marketplace celebrating and supporting local artisans, creators, and small businesses, as well as connecting travellers to the heart of the communities with which Renaissance Hotels co-exist.
It blends well with the evening’s market theme, where Renaissance Hotel Johor Bahru kept booths for Kraftangan Malaysia showcasing Johor’s unique traditional handcraft goods, handmade purses and dresses made of Batik block and weaving, pineapple-based products, of papers, scented candles, and many more.
Staying true to championing the locals, the stage was enlivened by the live performances of crowd’s favourite, Keyin the Saxophonist, and the return of Ellen & Tim to the GDOD stage this year, creating a delightful atmosphere that highlighted the rich cultural essence of Johor Bahru.
A beverage inspired by the lively town of Pekan Nanas, known as Malaysia’s pineapple haven was also created – this pineapple punch pays homage to the spirit of connection and camaraderie that comes with enjoying wonderful food and drinks together. With its refreshing and flavourful blend, the ‘Pekan Nanas Punch’ embodies the joyous essence of its namesake town, inviting guests to raise their glasses and celebrate togetherness.
Alternatively, non-alcoholic Bandung Lychee with Selasih, a beloved Malaysian classic that has been thoughtfully reimagined, and fresh, young coconut water were offered, making it a fun get-together for everyone.
The kitchen of the Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel took their chance to display the creativity of their team by dishing out popular Malaysian dishes like Nasi Lemak, Nasi Ayam, and Pulut Kuning into the form of easy-to-eat Japanese sushi, while a huge display of colourful crystalite sugar with artisanal works of chocolate sitting atop it, with a huge, edible pop cake board standing tall as its backdrop, naturally became a photo opportunity area for the guests.
