Future Eyewear Design Competition” (CERMIN MATA MASA DEPAN) is an initiative launched by Hakka Optical as part of the “Love Your Eyes” campaign in conjunction with World Sight Day, celebrated every October. The campaign aims to support Batu Pahat, Johor’s vision of becoming a city where eye health care is accessible, available, and affordable for all by 2030. As such, this competition will be one of Hakka Optical’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, to be held annually.
Parents and children in Batu Pahat are encouraged to reflect on the importance of eye health. Every day, many children miss out on learning and social opportunities due to vision problems—issues that are often treatable, correctable, or even curable. Regular eye check-ups are crucial in preventing vision loss and ensuring that children are not left behind in their education.
Hakka Optical invites all Primary 1 to Primary 6 students in the Batu Pahat district to participate by designing the next generation of futuristic eyewear—What will glasses of the future look like? What materials should they use? What unique, innovative, or imaginative functions might they feature? Let creativity and imagination take the lead.
Professors, PhD holders, Academic Mentors from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), along with officials from the Batu Pahat District Education Office (Penjabat Pendidikan Daerah Batu Pahat), will serve as judges for this event. The evaluation will be guided by the “STI 100³ Science, Technology and Innovation Programme” driven by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), and will emphasize the promotion of students’ understanding of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation issued by the Batu Pahat District Education Office. The top three winners will each receive a Certificate of Achievement and a pair of glasses or sunglasses sponsored by Hakka Optical. Additionally, their respective schools will receive cash prizes of RM200, RM100, and RM50.
Interested participants may now visit Hakka Optical at 12 Jalan Penggaram to collect the entry form for free. Completed entries must be submitted to Hakka Optical no later than 4:00 PM on 31st August 2025.
