To relieve traffic congestion at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, the state government of Johor is introducing a free shuttle bus service starting tomorrow (BSI).
Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Johor Menteri Besar, said the initiative is to help commuters caught in traffic get to the building via the pedestrian bridge from JB Sentral.
He said the decision to provide the service came after he chaired a task force meeting on 21st of April with representatives from several ministries and organisations to discuss challenges and potential solutions.
“From the meeting, the state government will give its commitment to provide shuttle bus service for free.
“The shuttle bus will be provided from tomorrow until 30th of April, 2022,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page.
The shuttle bus would operate every 10 minutes between Jalan Tun Razak (City Square) and Jalan Jim Quee to BSI, according to Onn Hafiz, and the frequency might be increased during peak hours and on public holidays.
Work to upgrade escalators has been highlighted as one of the causes of congestion for commuters using the pedestrian bridge between JN Sentral and BSI, which is slated to be finished in the middle of June, according to him.
“Among those contributing to the congestion is the limited number of buses moving in and out of BSI and bus operators would only start operating from May 1 due to problems arising from the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
