Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohammad said Johor is ready to face the east sea monsoon with flood forecasted to happen.

He said that in a statement after the monsoon’s virtual briefing with Johor State Disaster Management Committee on Friday, the 24th of December. Also present were Johor State Secretary, Dato’ Haji Azmi Rohani and relevant agencies.

“The improvement of the flood disaster management system by taking into account unforeseen occurrences was one of the issues discussed.”

“Aside from that, issues such as improving flood readiness and upgrading the communication system from the onset to the surrounding region were addressed,” he said in the statement.

In addition, the authorities concerned were told to undergo cooperation drills in case of unanticipated events. The training is intended to ensure that rescue and aid efforts during flood crises are well-coordinated and done immediately.

“Delays in rescue efforts and providing assistance to all flood victims cannot be compromised as the lives and safety of the people is a priority.”

He also called on all parties to continue to cooperate and help each other in facing any disaster while hoping that non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and volunteers, particularly the youth, are always readily available to help flood victims even beyond the state of Johor.

“The public is urged to always follow the authorities’ instructions and take proper precautions to avoid any unexpected situations,” ends the statement.
