100 volunteers work together to illuminate on education
The Johor Empowerment of Intellectual Women Association or better known as JEIWA had collaborated with its strategic partners at Bandar Seri Alam to launch Edulife 2019 programme with a tagline of ‘Bersama Membawa Cahaya Pendidikan’, literally translating as ‘Illuminating Knowledge Together’ as its effort to create opportunities for every children to be well-equipped in school.
The Edulife 2019 is focusing on distributing school supplies and the priority goes to orphans under the care of victims of domestic abuse. Recipients would be in JEIWA’s database to keep them under their continuous care and to ensure they get the opportunities provided by the association.
The event was graced by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maszlee Malik that has been supportive in creating the culture of knowledge empowered by empathy, joy and mutual respect.
A total fund of RM34,790 was raised by JEIWA, of which RM10,000 was contributed by UMLand and TNB each. This fund will help on purchasing extra school supplies and also opening SSPN accounts for the children involved.
JEIWA is also supported by Iskandar Regional Development Authority in opening a community centre in Paradigm Mall JB namely JEIWA Power House and is foreseeing it to become the catalyst in encouraging the community to be more involved in volunteering activities and also as a platform to train and help focused groups.
Among the corporations that were involved in this programme are UMLand, TNB, Maybank, Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru, McDonalds, and government agencies like Johor Bahru District Office (PDJB), Johor Bahru District Education Office (PPD), Pasir Gudang Municipal Council (MPPG), IPD Seri Alam, education institutions, entrepreneurs and Social Enterprise JEIWA Global Resources.
Individuals also helped by donating books, school uniforms as hands-me-down and a minimum of RM15 cash (or any amount they desired) was donated for the purchase of school uniforms.
