Johor will expand its digitalisation by introducing a few initiatives while also advancing a work in progress such as JENDELA. Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohammad has tabled a deficit budget for Johor on the 18th of November, under the theme of “Strengthening the Prosperity of Johor” that includes few applications, plans and programmes for different sectors in digitalising the state.
Here are the excerpts from the Johor Digital agenda in the Johor 2022 Budget:
Albayen Johor Digital Islamic Education: RM1.2Million
A digital initiative to prepare educators and students with state of the art education skills.
Johor Pay: RM500,000
Introducing a local portal initiative known as Johor Pay which makes it easier for people to do their transactions online for selected Government services.
ACES Web Application: RM1.5 Million
The ACES Web Application will be introduced to raise awareness and knowledge among students in the ECER region about the Industrial Revolution 4.0. A total of 3,000 students in the districts of Kota Tinggi, Segamat and Mersing received the benefits.
SME Digitatision Programme: RM1.3Million
Involving 1,000 SME entrepreneurs, the state government will attract more Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs to manage their businesses digitally through the Johor SME Digitisation Programme.
Johor Student Internet Programme: RM1.7Million
This initiative will provide an opportunity for eligible Johor students to receive the best internet access. 3,000 Johorean students will receive assistance in the form of internet access packages for a year.
Digital ‘Ketua Kampung’ (Chief of the village): RM610,000
Provide digital onboarding training, a one-year internet package and tablets to all chiefs of local villages to help carry out their responsibilities.
Young Drone Pilot Programme: RM2.3Million
Drone Robotic Zone (DRZ) Iskandar has been recognised as one of the National Technology Innovation Sandbox (NTIS) Test Sites in Malaysia which focuses on the development of drone and robotics technology.
Youngster Coding Programme: RM2.85Million
Benefiting 500,000 primary and secondary school students to cultivate their interest in all aspects of learning and improve skills, creativity, collaboration and problem-solving through ‘high-order thinking’ to prepare students to be more creative, dynamic and encourage teamwork.
Gig Economy RM2.7 Million
RM150 one-off petrol incentives to 15,051 e-hailing drivers and taxi drivers and RM100 one-off petrol incentives to 4,455 food delivery partners would be handed out.
Johor Broadband Internet Incentive Programme: RM1.5 Million
To benefit 1,500 households. Subsidy of 50% of the total monthly bill for 100mbps internet capacity for 12 months focusing on B40 families.
Johor e-Mechanics Programme: RM2.4 Million
Provide guidance assistance to affected workshop operators and mechanics to resume their activities in the market through digital training and onboarding processes.
Digital Johor Start-up Grant: RM2.2 Million
Targeting 50 to 100 companies within two years in Johor with complete infrastructure, strategic location and availability of skilled manpower such as in the Medini Iskandar Malaysia area. The state government is confident of attracting startup companies to come and set foot here.
Transformation of the license management and ability of Local Authority premise business
Internet of Things (IoT) technology-based digital smart licensing services that will replace existing paper and license boards will be introduced. The service will be integrated with mobile system applications that can facilitate more efficient and transparent enforcement operations.
Johor State Project Monitoring System (JoMS)
To ensure the implementation and planning of development and privatisation projects run systematically and effectively.
JENDELA Project Q3 2022: RM700Million
5G services will be expanded to 36% of coverage areas in several states including Johor to help more Johoreans gain internet access and information.
Earlier this month, Head of the Infrastructure Division of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Bukhari Yahya, said in the implementation under Phase 1 of JENDELA which started last year that the expansion of mobile broadband coverage in Johor aims to build a total of 233 telecommunication towers involving all 10 districts in Johor. Of that number, 101 of them have been completed by last June while the rest are in the process of implementation.
