I had the pleasure of reading Malcolm Mejin’s latest book over the weekend and was surprised by what a fun read it was; definitely got a few chuckles out of me!

What inspired you to write Diary of a Rich Kid: Lost In Space? Is it based on your personal experience?
I wanted to write something “out of this world”, literally. My books have always been wildly imaginative, from a suspenseful sun-kissed island adventure to a fantasy undersea escapade. So I thought, why not do something different … such as space? I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmos, and wondered what mysteries lay out there in the galaxy. So I toyed with this idea: What would you do if you’re all alone and lost in space, running low on oxygen and cut off from all forms of communication?
That was how Lost in Space started, from that very basic concept. I was so excited about the wild possibilities that I worked on the story right away.
Whenever a good idea hits, I will immediately jot it down and flesh it out.
Will there be any other books soon in the pipeline?
Yes, there will be. My upcoming book, which is also part of the Diary of a Rich Kid series, will be published by Penguin Random House.
I’ve completed writing the book, which is now awaiting publication and should be out by the end of this year.
For now, without giving away too much, all I can say is that the book will definitely be more exciting than ever before and will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Set in the mountains of Sarawak, the story is brilliantly weaved with some supernatural elements.

About the Author
Sarawakian-born, Malcolm Mejin is the author of the Diary of a Rich Kid series. He first started writing the series in 2017 for fun, never intending to publish it. However, with his friend’s advice, he decided to self-publish the series, which spawned three books originally. Lost in Space is the first book in the series published under Penguin Random House SEA. His first attempt at writing began at six years old, when he tried to write a short fantasy story and turn it into a home-made book. Ever since then, he has never stopped writing. Malcolm is also a frequent fixture at both public and international schools during his school tour, which he uses as a platform to empower and inspire youths, and share his passion in writing.
