Department of Statistics Malaysia: Johor Among Top Exporters in November

Johor is one of the states that have dominated Malaysia’s exports, accounting for 83.8% of the total in November, said the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin in the Export-Import Statistics by State November 2024 report published by the DOSM, valued at RM126.6 billion in November, increased by RM5.0 billion, or 4.1%, compared to the same month of the previous year.

Johor is the second-top exporter at 18.4%, while Penang remains the top exporter at 36.4%. Selangor is at 17.3%, Sarawak at 7.9%, and Kuala Lumpur at 3.8%.

Pulau Pinang (+RM10.7 billion), Perak (+RM373.5 million), Labuan (+RM258.8 million), Selangor (+RM46.8 million), Melaka (+RM18.0 million), and Perlis (+RM3.6 million) were among the states with the highest exports, according to Mohd Uzir.

According to him, exports fell by RM2.0 billion in Kuala Lumpur, -RM1.9 billion in Johor, -RM1.0 billion in Kedah, -RM390.2 million in Sabah, -RM353.7 million in Terengganu, -RM262.0 million in Pahang, -RM217.7 million in Negeri Sembilan, -RM180.3 million in Sarawak, and -RM20.1 million in Kelantan.

In the meantime, Mohd Uzir reported that, in comparison to the same month in 2023, imports in November rose by RM1.8 billion (1.6%), or RM111.3 billion.

Higher imports in the majority of states, including Pulau Pinang (+RM5.4 billion), Johor (+RM499.2 million), Labuan (+RM232.1 million), Kedah (+RM158.3 million), Kelantan (+RM57.4 million), Perlis (+RM53.6 million), and Terengganu (+RM52.4 million), were cited as the reason for the increase in imports.

Negeri Sembilan saw a RM1.3 billion drop in imports, followed by Kuala Lumpur (-RM1.1 billion), Melaka (-RM746.4 million), Pahang (-RM706.6 million), Sarawak (-RM625.8 million), Perak (-RM354.1 million), Selangor (-RM316.2 million), and Sabah (-RM232.3 million), he said.

Johor held the fourth most share in Malaysia’s imports at 20.5% according to Uzir, while the top is Selangor at 25.8% followed by Pulau Pinang 24.7% while Kuala Lumpur 8.3% after Johor and Kedah 5.7%.
