UNITAR offers RM200,000 in scholarships

The Absolut Food Festival 2019 (AFF) will be taking place at Angsana Mall Shopping Centre, Johor Bahru from 6th – 8th September 2019, bringing together 170 young entrepreneurs from Malaysia and Singapore to showcase their products to an estimated crowd of 250,000.

The School of Culinary Arts from UNITAR International University (UNITAR) will be participating in the 3-day event, and UNITAR as the co-sponsors for the event, will also announce the sponsorship of RM200,000 for deserving students to chase their dreams by first acquiring the right skill sets and knowledge in business at the University.

To qualify for the scholarship, participants will need to present their ideas of entrepreneurship through an elevator pitch. Five winners will be selected based on best idea, while the scholarship amount determined by academic results, leadership qualities and socio-academic influence. The panel of judges at the event will be headed by entrepreneur and fashionista, Nadiyah Shahab.

According to Professor Dr Noor Raihan Hamid, Vice Chancellor at UNITAR, “The event is the perfect platform to nurture students with the CARE attributes of being collaborative, adaptive, reflective and entrepreneurial, as they participate in the management and organisatison of a large-scale event.”

Expect engaging activities by the School of Culinary Arts, including ‘Challenge the Chef’, where members of the public will be invited to participate. The UNITAR chef will task these few to prepare a dish of the same ingredients and through a blind taste test, AFF goers will determine the best dish.

The university is geared to make higher education accessible to all by being the right education partner to help crystalise dreams, turning it into a reality. UNITAR recognises that success goes beyond knowledge attained in the classroom and can be also achieved by providing students a platform to pursue their passion, educating them with the right business acumen and to venture into business upon graduation too.

Sponsoring the Absolut Food Festival was the right platform to communicate UNITAR’s entrepreneurship development initiative – an initiative in which the university has been focused by engaging more than 50 MNC and GLC partners. By the first quarter of next year, the university aims to double this figure, allowing more students to secure jobs whilst giving their career a kickstart from the onset of their enrolment.

Foodies will also be entertained by the YOU singers, a group of young, talented students from UNITAR, who were instrumental in the composition of YOUnity, a song dedicated to Malaysia for Hari Merdeka and Hari Malaysia, rendering their love for country and fellow Malaysians regardless differences in language, ethnicity or background.

UNITAR International University was established in 1997 and is known for being the first virtual university in Southeast Asia and one of the pioneering private universities in Malaysia. The university continues to pursue affordable and quality education that meets the cutting-edge needs of 21st-century education in both conventional and distance-learning modes.
