Johor is reportedly appealing to the Federal Government to allow those who have received full dosage of the COVID-19 vaccine to travel between the borders, eased with a vaccination certificate.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohammad said that the state would propose to the Federal Government to consider allowing fully-vaccinated people to travel between Johor and Singapore as part of the benefits of getting vaccinated.
Vaccinated people would receive certification indicating that they have received the first and second dosage.
“Countries like Singapore too will be generating such certificates, so I’ll recommend to the Federal Government that with the availability of this certification for citizens who have been vaccinated, there could be some form of benefit in the ‘new normal’ when it comes to crossing borders,” Hasni told reporters before receiving his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as part of the national immunisation campaign on 1st March.
“The state will make its suggestions and recommendations to the Federal Government on some normal operating procedures on the reopening of the border with Singapore,” he added.
The Malaysia – Singapore border has been closed since 18th March 2020, and Singapore has suspended its travel bubble plan with Malaysia for 3 months on 30th January 2021.
