Johor conducted cloud seeding in several areas today, the 11th of February in response to unplanned water supply disruptions in Kluang and Pontian districts.
Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, chairman of the state Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure, and Communications Committee, stated that his party had contacted both the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) about the situation.
He stated that the effort was intended to help increase water levels in the dams involved, specifically the Machap and Gunung Pulai Dams, which were experiencing a decline following the drought.
Mohamad Fazli stated that the state government would consider other measures to increase water capacity at the involved Water Treatment Plants (WTPs), including the Simpang Renggam WTP, by treating water supplies from multiple WTPs.
“We will also draw water from the Machap Dam through the dam’s central area, and we expect to add an additional 20 million cubic litres of water (MLD) to the Simpang Renggam LRA.
“The Simpang Renggam LRA has a capacity of 60 million MLD, and we are currently operating at less than 30%,” he told reporters at the Johor Dialogue 2026 programme.
In this regard, he hoped that the effort could accommodate the water reservoir levels in the dams involved, thereby resolving the issue of water supply disruptions ahead of the Chinese New Year and Ramadan celebrations.
Mohamad Fazli expressed gratitude for several states that have lent water supply tanks during the Johor water supply disruptions, including Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah, and Penang.
Earlier, Ranhill SAJ announced on 7th February through a Facebook post that unplanned water supply disruptions had occurred in the Kluang and Pontian districts as a result of the Simpang Renggam LRA’s dry season water level drop.
The Johor water service operator also said that the Scheduled Water Supply (SWS) was implemented on the same day starting at 12 midnight as a temporary management measure.
Alternative water supply is provided in designated areas based on needs and strategic locations using tanker trucks and static tanks.
