Universal Music Greater China (UMGC), a division of Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment, announced the release of Game Changer, the first new single from Chinese pop superstar Jason Zhang following UMGC’s multi-faceted strategic partnership with him and his personal label, Planet Culture, announced earlier this year.

Written, composed and produced by Jason, Game Changer marks the first musical release to emerge from the new relationship and represents an important step in the artist’s continued creative and international development. The track brings Jason together with an international production team including Bobby Colomby, founding member of legendary jazz-rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears, and acclaimed musician Jesus Molina, combining a powerful rock-driven sound with Jason’s distinctive vocal style.

Game Changer also serves as the theme song for the newly upgraded edition of Jason Zhang FUTURE·LIVE — Leave For 1982 World Tour. Jason gave fans the first live performance of the song on 11th September 2026 in Hangzhou, at the opening show of the new tour. The track was released on major digital music platforms in China on 12th September and will be available globally from 17th September.

The release follows UMGC’s announcement in June of a multi-faceted strategic relationship with Jason and Planet Culture spanning future recorded music, artist management, live performance, international presence and broader strategic development. Since then, UMGC has been working closely with Jason and his team to create new opportunities for creative exchange and collaboration through UMG’s global network.

As part of this effort, Jason recently travelled to the United States for a series of creative sessions and meetings with artists, producers and music executives. During the trip, he connected with Colomby, whose extensive career spans rock, jazz and pop and includes work with Michael Jackson, as well as Molina. The creative exchanges led to both musicians contributing to Game Changer, bringing together different musical perspectives across cultures.

Widely recognised as one of the defining voices in Mandopop, Jason has built an extraordinary career spanning more than two decades. Since rising to prominence in the mid-2000s, he has become one of the most successful and influential artists in Chinese-language pop music, releasing more than 17 albums and EPs and building a fanbase of more than 100 million followers across Chinese social media platforms.

His reputation has been shaped by both his recordings and his remarkable live career. Earlier this year, Jason completed a landmark run of 16 sold-out concerts in just 24 days at Beijing National Stadium, the Bird’s Nest, setting a record for the most shows ever staged in a single-stop stadium run.

The latest chapter of Jason Zhang FUTURE·LIVE — Leave For 1982 World Tour also sees Jason expand his creative role beyond performing. For the first time in his career, he serves as Chief Director of the whole tour, overseeing its broader creative vision across stage production, visuals and repertoire. The evolution follows international recognition for the tour’s previous production, which received a Gold Award in the Interior Exhibition category at the 2026 French Design Award.

With Game Changer, Jason’s first release under his new partnership with UMGC, the collaboration now moves from strategic ambition into new music combining Jason’s established creative identity and extraordinary connection with Chinese audiences with UMG’s international network and resources to support the next stage of his career and bring contemporary Mandopop to an even broader global audience.
