Charlie Lim announces third album 'DAYDREAM' + releases heartbreaking lead single "Nobody's Home"
Award-winning Singaporean singer-songwriter Charlie Lim announces his third full-length album ‘DAYDREAM’, slated for release at the end of 2026. The album’s first single, “Nobody’s Home”, premieres 3rd April 2026, accompanied by a music video directed by longtime collaborator Jonathan Choo. Tender and unguarded in its instrumentation, the single draws listeners into the songwriter’s dark and quiet interior, setting the emotional tone for the forthcoming record.
A Return to Singer-Songwriter Melancholy
On ‘DAYDREAM’, Charlie descends into a tender de profundis—an inward reckoning that marks a return to his signature singer-songwriter melancholy, now refined by years of lived experience and creative rupture. Having written, performed, and produced his own music throughout his career, Charlie approaches this album as both an act of alchemy and surrender, where breaking open becomes a prerequisite for transformation.
For fans of James Blake, Chet Faker, Bat For Lashes, and Beth Orton, ‘DAYDREAM’ emerges as Charlie’s most delicately crafted body of work to date. Since his debut album ‘TIME/SPACE’, Charlie has explored an evolving amalgamation of styles across the last decade. This new record strips back to emotional essentials—eight tracks where moments steeped in pain and regret are held in balance with pockets of reprieve, a quiet surrender and acceptance that offers breath rather than escape.
“It’s a delicate equilibrium,” he reflects, of both love and art. “This album taught me that clarity often comes from taking things away and trusting silence, space, and vulnerability to do the heavy lifting.”
“Nobody’s Home” – A Song That Poured Out
The album’s lead single “Nobody’s Home” emerged during one of the most difficult periods of Charlie’s life. Written and recorded in a makeshift studio in a cottage in Devon with UK artist sugi.wa (Will Goldsmith), who co-produced the track, the song represents a rare moment of unfiltered emotional release.
“I was going through a really difficult time. I usually mull over things a lot when it comes to writing, but ‘Nobody’s Home’ was one of the rare songs that just poured out in one sitting,” Charlie explains. “The vocals and piano were written and recorded in one take. I remember just collapsing on the couch after finishing the song and having a good cry—something that doesn’t really happen to me either. It was quite an overwhelming experience.”
The result is a track of profound intimacy—tender and unguarded, showcasing Charlie’s ability to create emotional connection through restraint. It’s a quality that has made him “one of Singapore’s more prominent voices in contemporary pop music” (National Arts Council).
International Collaborations
While the album’s themes trace loss, longing, and a search for redemption, ‘DAYDREAM’ is not a solitary journey. Charlie finds international company in the album’s collaborators, featuring Scottish singer-songwriter Tamzene, pianist and organist Chok Kerong, and Australian cellist Ng Pei-Sian. The album was produced with UK artist sugi.wa (Will Goldsmith), with additional production from Aneirin Wee, Ian Lee (PK Records, nkei, Rhyu), and Kin Leonn.
These collaborations give rise to a sound that feels both newly expansive and deeply intimate—a subtle homecoming that reaffirms Charlie Lim’s place as one of Singapore’s most resonant and emotionally incisive singer-songwriters.
A Career of Emotional Honesty
Charlie Lim has been part of Singapore’s contemporary pop music scene for over 15 years. Known for emotionally honest songwriting and evolving sonic approach, his music has accumulated more than 20 million streams across digital platforms, earning two #1 positions on the iTunes Singapore album charts for ‘TIME/SPACE’ (2015) and ‘CHECK-HOOK’ (2018).
His accolades include COMPASS Young Songwriter of the Year (2017), Indie/Alternative Artist of the Year at the Youth Music Awards (2021), and the National Arts Council’s Young Artist Award (2021). CLASH Magazine noted: “A songwriter of real strength and character, his work has incredible depth, with ‘TIME/SPACE’ winning widespread plaudits. Now it’s time for the rest of the world to catch up.”
As a live performer, Charlie has appeared on prominent stages across the region, including Summer Sonic (Tokyo, 2018), Bigsound (Brisbane, 2018), Java Jazz Festival (Jakarta, 2016), Wanderland Festival (Manila, 2019), Clockenflap (Hong Kong, 2012), HOZO Festival (Vietnam, 2023), and Urbanscapes (Kuala Lumpur, 2012). He has collaborated and shared stages with internationally acclaimed artists such as Khalil Fong, Kimbra, Kan Sano, Miho Fukuhara, BIBI, Taku Takahashi, and Clara Benin.
National Cultural Contributions
Beyond his solo work, Charlie has played a significant role in national cultural initiatives as a songwriter and producer. He was commissioned to write and co-produce a reimagined version of the 1987 classic ‘We Are Singapore’ for National Day 2018, which achieved nationwide resonance. He continued this contribution with ‘Breathing City’ (2021) and the 2025 National Day Theme Song ‘Here We Are’, which he performed live at the National Day Parade alongside Singapore music icon Kit Chan as assistant music director.
A Quiet Evolution
In 2026, Charlie returns with ‘DAYDREAM’, marking his most stripped-back and emotionally vulnerable body of work to date—a quiet yet deliberate evolution shaped by personal rupture, artistic renewal, and a renewed commitment to truth over spectacle.
