Hot porridge and curry gravy for the Nyonya Laksa at Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru’s Caprilicious Restaurant’s “Malaysia Sedap”

After attending the hotel’s recent collaboration with JWC, I’ve learnt that Capri by Fraser Johor Bahru (Capri) is dedicating this month for a local flair at the Caprilicous restaurant. I needed to see what they were serving, so I got in touch with Ann Lee, Capri’s Marketing Communications Manager, to attend their luncheon.

Upon entering, my sight was caught by the pastries on display atop a tall table on the right with fresh, cut fruits on ice with Rojak sauce and chocolate-coated strawberries, seated together with local fritters such as spring rolls, curry puffs, and fish crackers. Next to it, a line of ‘lauk-pauk’ ready to be paired with your white rice or chicken rice was neatly laid out. The huge prawns in the yellow, coconut-based gravy with chunks of pineapple to sweeten it became popular among the guests that day.

Settling myself at the table near the biggest window panel for a good view, my friend went straight to the Yong Tau Foo corner, citing she needed the vegetables in her system that day, while another was quick to ask for a big cut of Roasted Chicken at the carving station for her Hainanese Chicken Rice that was full of fragrant and beautifully displayed.

My choice to whet my palate was the porridge coupled with a variety of sauces and condiments to add, making my warm bowl of porridge just as lively as the ones I’ve had at my favourite, local porridge store. To give it a kick, I took cuts of bird’s eye chilli and some Steamed Beancurd and Minced Chicken from the ‘lauk’ line.

Compliments were high at our table for the local Green Mussels. Since, I’m allergic to seafood, my companions shared that it was cooked in a fine, clear broth that brought out the natural taste, and my mouth watered at that thought!

We then filled our glasses with choices of really good Soybean, juices, Pink Bandung, Peppermint tea and coffee to savour with our choices of desserts. I had Fudges that were recommended to be eaten with cream in the dessert mug; and it was the best thing to end my Friday lunch at Capri.

Caprilicous’ Malaysia Sedap is available for lunch on Friday from 11.30am to 3pm and Saturday Dinner from 6.30pm to 9.30pm until the end of September 2024.
