In a meaningful move toward environmental stewardship, CBH Recycling, Sunway Management, and the school community of SMK Saint Joseph B launched a joint recycling campaign that brought together students, parents, and educators in a powerful show of sustainability in action. The principal of SMK Saint Joseph (B), Suhaimi bin Omar shared that recycling programmes are crucial to help schools into achieving zero waste.

The event, held on the school grounds, was part of an ongoing initiative to promote responsible waste management and environmental education among youth. Titled “From Home to Hope,” the campaign encouraged students and families to collect and bring in recyclables—such as paper, plastic, aluminium cans, e-waste, and used cooking oil—to be weighed and exchanged for cash rewards and eco-points.

“This collaboration is a great example of what can be achieved when schools, corporations, and families work together for a common purpose,” said Anne Lim, Community Outreach Lead at CBH Recycling. “It’s about changing habits and creating long-term environmental awareness.”

Over 40 kilogrammes of recyclable materials were collected during the campaign, with participation of 30 students. The event was supported logistically and educationally by Sunway Management, which provided mobile sustainability exhibits and hands-on learning stations focused on circular economy concepts and zero-waste living.

Environmental Prefect from SMK Saint Joseph B’s Environmental Club played a key role in organizing and promoting the event within the school, while parents contributed actively by sorting and delivering recyclables and volunteering on the event day.

“This programme helped our students understand that even small actions like separating plastic bottles or donating old electronics can have a big environmental impact,” said Kanimohzi, teacher coordinator of the school’s Environmental Club. “We are proud of the energy and enthusiasm shown by our students and their families.”

The success of the programme has prompted plans to extend the initiative into a long-term environmental education campaign. Among the upcoming plans are:

  • Establishing a permanent recycling station on campus
  • Hosting monthly recycling collections
  • Introducing a Green Badge programme to reward eco-conscious student behaviour
  • Organising workshops on composting and sustainable habits
  • Holding inter-school recycling competitions to broaden outreach across Johor

“Sunway Management is proud to support grassroots sustainability programmes like this one,” said Nor Suhaizi Binti Mahdan , CSR Manager at Sunway. “We believe in nurturing a generation that understands its environmental responsibilities and acts on them.”

This programme reinforces a shared commitment to building a cleaner, greener Johor, and serves as a model for future school-community-corporate partnerships aimed at environmental impact.
