The Department of Meteorology Malaysia Ministry of Natural Resources and Natural Sustainability have advised that the transitional phase of the monsoon is expected to begin on 29th March 2024 and continue until May 2024. The start of this phase marks the end of the North East Monsoon 2023/24 which has started since 11th November 2023.
During the transition phase of the monsoon, the country’s region will receive weak winds from various directions that are conducive to thunderstorms that usually bring heavy rain and strong winds in a short period of time. This incident would occur mainly in the evening and early night in most areas in the West and interior of the Peninsula, Western Sabah and Southern and Central Sarawak. These weather conditions have the potential to cause flash floods, fallen trees and damage to unsound structures.
With the onset of the monsoon transition phase, the hot and dry weather conditions prevailing in most places across the country are expected to gradually recover by mid-April.
The public is advised to be more vigilant during this period and always be aware of weather forecasts and warnings issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department through the official website, www.myCuaca mobile application and the Department’s official social media. The public can also call the Department’s Hotline 1-300-22-1638 for any further questions.
