Fifty percent of ticket sales will go to an NGO
Beauty pageants may seem superficial where women in designer clothes walk down the runway exhibiting their perfectly chiseled physical features and sculptured bodies. However, it is often more than that.
To leave your comfort zones and step into the world facing audiences judging your every move requires confidence. When you are aware you are being judged, you will need to have a fundamental positive attitude too to be able to overcome the talks of the naysayers. It seems easy to sashay down the catwalk, but reality is easier said than done for anyone. Service to the community is everyone’s responsibility too, and it is the job of a beauty pageant contestant to highlight areas of needs; to use their beauty and heart to voice for the voiceless, to help the helpless.
The Miss Nightingale Johor 2019 is a fundraising event aimed to uplift both the upcoming young generations and the less privileged and disabled children.
Young women, aged 18 – 35, participated in the event to showcase their talents and personality. The finals of the event will be on 2nd October 2019 at Trove Hotel, judged by renowned individuals in the scene such as Jane Teoh, Miss Universe Malaysia 2019, Jude Benjamin, Director of Miss Grand Malaysia, Celebrity Make-up Artist Sheila Mohamad, Fashion Designer Amaze Atelier, and CEO and Founder of Bookd Talent, Carl Graham. Tickets go on sale at RM150 per ticket.
Fifty percent (50%) of sales will go directly to the Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children Association Johor Bahru, an NGO that has 350 total patients in their home – 296 being children. The children, of ages 3 – 18, live in the home in Saleng, Kulai. The 30-year-old NGO homes children with disabilities from all categories, such as Down syndrome, mental retardation, Cerebral Palsy, autism, hyperactivity and psychiatric disorders, and their monthly expenses go up to RM120,000 per month.
At a press conference, the finalists of the event collectively shared that they feel happy to be a part of a bigger cause, to help out those in need. Most of them were teary-eyed reminiscing their experience, that they felt nothing but love for the children, and from the children.
Supporting the event means we help the younger generation of women understand their roles and responsibilities in society, help them gain strength, confidence, and positivity to overcome adversities and help a home with disabled children live more comfortably with better facilities.
