Johor has announced several sustainable tourism practises at ASEAN Tourism Forum 2025 (ATF 2025).
Raven Kumar Krishnasamy, Exco for Tourism, Environment, Heritage and Culture in his speech said Johor is committed to promoting sustainable tourism practices.
Eco-friendly accommodation options – By encouraging the use of renewable energy sources, minimizing waste generation, and promoting water conservation in hotels and resorts.
Responsible wildlife tourism – Promoting ethical wildlife viewing practices, supporting conservation efforts, and ensuring the protection of endangered species.
Community-based tourism – Empowering local communities by involving them in tourism development and ensuring that they benefit from tourism revenues.
Promoting sustainable transportation – Encouraging the use of public transportation, cycling, and walking to reduce carbon emissions.
Furthermore, we believe that technology plays a crucial role in shaping the future of tourism.
“Tourism has the power to transform lives, to foster cultural understanding, and to contribute significantly to economic development. However, it is crucial that we approach tourism responsibly, minimising our environmental impact and ensuring that local communities benefit from this growth,” Raven said in his speech.
“By embracing digital innovation, we can enhance the travel experience, improve accessibility, and personalise travel itineraries for individual travelers. This includes exploring the potential of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality to create immersive and engaging travel experiences.”
