Travellers arriving at the International Gateway in Malaysia including citizens, and foreigners are required to abide by the new set of rules provided by the Ministry of Health (MOH) since the announcement of more leeway for fully-vaccinated individuals by the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, on 8th August 2021.
In a statement dated 12th August 2021 from the Director-General of Health Malaysia, procedures for travellers arriving at Malaysia’s International Gateway (PMA) includes health screening test, COVID-19 screening test and quarantine. Here are the 5 things that you should know:
- Applicants are advised to apply 7 days before entering Malaysia
Travellers’ health risk status would be assessed through the application which would consider the vaccination status, COVID-19 infection possibilities and if their residence is suitable for applicants to self-quarantine.
- Home quarantine approval is NOT given automatically upon arrival
Even if you are fully vaccinated, the approval to enter Malaysia would not be given automatically at PMAl. All applications will have to go through Home Risk Assessment by MOH first.
- The definition of fully vaccinated individuals according to MOH
According to Appendix A of the statement, in regard to the procedure of quarantine for people entering Malaysia, the definition of fully vaccinated is:
i. Individuals have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine,
ii. Their second dose was received at least fourteen days before the arrival date to Malaysia,
iii. Has received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and the first dose was at least 28 days before arriving in Malaysia.
- The application forms to fill and where to send them to
Applicants should first download the application forms either in English or Bahasa Malaysia. Attach together the front page of your passport, proof of vaccination and flight ticket (if travelling by air) and send the completed form to hso@moh.gov.my
- Be wary of high traffic of applications
Since the applications’ announcement, the Home Surveillance Order (HSO) team’s mailbox has experienced a high volume of emails and it may take some time before applicants could get their email through. Stay updated through MOH’s official Facebook page.
