Sunway Healthcare and Medtronic forge strategic partnership to enhance Centres of Excellence

Sunway Healthcare Group and Medtronic have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant milestone in their collaborative journey to advance medical care, and underscoring a shared vision of developing solutions to tackle some of the most pressing healthcare challenges.

Notably, the MoU will further enhance the Centre of Excellence within the existing spine centre at Sunway Healthcare Group’s flagship quaternary hospital, Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC).

The MoU was officially signed by Jennifer Cho, Vice President & Managing Director – Island Southeast Asia (ISEA), at Medtronic, and Dr Khoo Chow Huat, Managing Director (Hospital & Healthcare Operations) at Sunway Healthcare Group. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Simon Yam, Country Director – Malaysia at Medtronic, and Dato’ Lau Beng Long, President of Sunway Healthcare Group.

Dr Khoo Chow Huat, Managing Director (Hospital & Healthcare Operations) at Sunway Healthcare Group expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to mark a new chapter in our journey with Medtronic, a global leader renowned for its pioneering medical technologies. Our collaboration signifies the enhancement of Centres of Excellence that will focus on critical areas such as spine, neuroscience and cardiovascular medicine, and will be a beacon for training future surgeons in advanced robotic surgical techniques.”

The partnership will facilitate knowledge exchange and professional development through scientific and clinical engagements for spine surgeries, robotics and treatments. Sunway Medical Centre-trained consultants will share their expertise in Medtronic technologies with healthcare professionals across the region through clinical immersions, workshops and live-case observations.

The partnership will also enable opportunities for collaboration in clinical research and personalised digital healthcare initiatives, aligning with Medtronic’s commitment to advancing medical science and improving patient outcomes.

In addition to training and clinical research, this strategic partnership is also set to drive patient awareness programmes and enhance disease management through collaborative events and activities.
