The new cooperation seeks to enrich the nation’s Industry4.0 vision
On 15th Oct 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony took place between Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and Siasun Automation (Singapore) Pte. Ltd at Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof Hotel in Frankfurt, Germany.
The signing of TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) collaboration was officiated by Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdul Rahman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International) representing UTHM, and GL Toh, the Director of Siasun Automation (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. This ceremony was witnessed by the Minister of Education Malaysia, Dr. Maszlee Malik and Andy Pan- Managing Director of Teutloff and Executive Vice President of Siasun Education and Technology Group.
This new partnership would provide numerous opportunities for UTHM students, academic staff, and researchers to collaborate and contribute to the success of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), especially in Malaysia.
Industry4WRD framework, would be emulating Germany’s Dual System of Vocational Education and Training (for TVET) and Siasun will provide training in robotic and automation for reskilling and upskilling of working professionals that would help make Industry4WRD a reality in Malaysia.
UTHM is pioneering this industry link towards building a more robust research and TVET ecosystem. Dr.Maszlee Malik hopes that UTHM will be bold enough and take up the challenge to lead a more pro-active role in Malaysia’s TVET reform, such as the industry-led like TVET certification.
“I look forward to your proposal and recommendation to make this a historic success for Malaysia’s TVET programmes. I would love to see more of other MTUNs such as UNIMAP, UMP and UTEM to be part of this effort” he said in the speech.
He believes that today’s first step would open more doors to possible collaborations which would contribute towards building a stronger relationship, not only between UTHM and SIASUN, not only between Malaysia, China and Germany, but also between the European Union, ASEAN and China as three major trading blocks of this world.
