40 artists depicted their interpretation of Pekan Nenas in various forms
Organised by Pekan Nenas State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Service Centre and sponsored by Iskandar Malaysia Beyond Boundaries Programme (IMB2P), Paragon Globe Berhad (PGB) and Pekan Sentral, an exhibition namely The Art Journey of Pekan Nenas was held in Pekan Nenas, Pontian, Johor and officiated by Chairman of Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative, Sheikh ‘Umar Bagharib bin Ali with the presence of Yeo Tung Siong, Pekan Nenas State Legislative Assemblyman.
The mini art exhibition was contributed by 40 artists that tell the story of Pekan Nenas through their eyes and interpretation. Paintings of various forms were introduced and among them that were eye-catching were the ones that are made of pineapple-based canvas. Chin Chian Lee, Director of LCC Art Gallery which is responsible of collecting the art pieces shared that prior to this, there were cotton made from the thread of pineapple leaves’ fibre.
During the officiation, Sheikh ‘Umar who is also the State legislative assemblyman for Paloh, Johor was encouraging smaller towns to promote the unique criteria that they have for the world to learn and know, saying the exhibition is a great start for Pekan Nenas. Citing great involvement of local youth in art, he announced that the state government is about to launch a creative grant for collective creative and media and it is expected to be officially announced by early September via his official Facebook page.
Besides the paintings, merchandise for purchase is also available for visitors’ keepsake. The Art Journey of Pekan Nenas exhibition is ongoing till the 2nd of September, from 10am to 5pm at PTD 14270, Jalan Industri 8, Taman Perindustrian, Pekan Nanas. Entry is free of charge and everyone is welcome to visit, admire and find their new enchantment over the simple pineapple fruit that has made a mark as one of Johor’s attributes.
