Mandarin language students showcased their talent through singing

Voice of Kunkwan which was held for the fourth time has successfully attracted 12 participants from different races. The event served as a platform for Non-Chinese speakers to showcase their talent by singing Chinese songs in conjunction with International Chinese Language Day which is celebrated on the 20th April every year.

The competition started with an opening ceremony graced by Tebrau MP, Steven Choong Shiau Yoon. Steven in his speech said that he will always support this kind of events that promote social unity through language learning experiences.

The event followed by speech from Kent Ng, Kunkwan’s General Manager where he expressed his concern on the importance of learning Chinese Language since it is one of the most spoken languages in the world.

In an interview with one of the contestants, the motivation to better understand her patients drove Natasha, an audiologist to learn Mandarin. “The teachers here (Kunkwan) are very determined and they helped me through the journey,” she said.

Meanwhile, Muhamad Haziq who has learnt Mandarin for 6 months said that it was quite hard to converse in Mandarin since it has 4 different tones, but he managed to improve himself and participated in the competition.

The winner for the 4th Edition of Voice of Kunkwan went to Zexen Man Daman, Izzatul Hamim Abd Sani won the first runner-up prize followed by Salehudin Ashraf Jamil as the second runner up.

They have proven their talent in front of the three prestigious judges including Tyka Zatyka who represented Malaysia in the D’Academy Asia Singing Competition in Indonesia as well as Au and Sheryl who have vast experience in vocals.

Singer Tyka also entertained the audience with her beautiful voice singing Chinese songs before the event ended.
