In honour of this Sunday’s Deepavali event, the government has announced a two-day toll discount of fifty percent from the regular charge.

The implementation of the discount will begin at midnight on 6 November and ends at 11.59 p.m. on Saturday, 7 November, according to a statement released today by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

According to him, the government will pay RM20.11 million in compensation to the highway concession businesses participating in the toll discount, subject to the verification of traffic data.

Class 2 vehicles on the Penang Bridge and Class 1 private vehicles at all toll plazas are covered by the project. The Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) toll plaza on the North-South Motorway (PLUS) and the Tanjung Kupang (TTK) toll plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (LINKEDUA) are two examples of toll plazas that are not included.

“This decision reflects the ongoing concern and commitment of the MADANI Government in preserving the welfare and well-being of the people regardless of race, religion and belief, while also strengthening the spirit of unity and harmony among Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society.

“This initiative is hoped to help alleviate the travel costs for the people, especially the Hindu community who return to their hometowns or visit family members to celebrate Deepavali, thereby embodying the spirit of the festival through family ties and togetherness,” he said.

Nanta stated that the Works Ministry (KKR) will coordinate the implementation of the discount provision with the concerned highway concession firms to ensure that it runs smoothly and that eligible highway users benefit.

In order to avoid traffic congestion, he also suggested that highway users take advantage of the discount and plan their trips ahead of time. This includes making sure that the balance on their Touch ‘n Go card or eWallet is adequate, following speed limits, keeping a safe distance between cars, and getting enough sleep to prevent fatigue while driving.

Road users are advised to monitor current traffic information and highway incidents using LLM’s official channels to get the most up-to-date information and plan their trips more effectively.

He said that the cooperation of all road users in practicing prudent driving is very important to ensure that travel during the festive season runs smoothly, safely and comfortably.

“KKR wishes a Happy Deepavali 2026 to the Hindu community. May this Festival of Lights bring joy, prosperity and harmony to all, while continuing to strengthen the spirit of unity among the people of Malaysia.

“Prioritise safety and may all road users reach their destinations safely,” he added.
