Sunway has launched the first leg of its annual nationwide Sunway Sinar Ramadan initiative at Pusat Jagaan Impian Syimah, Johor Bahru, marking the beginning of a month-long journey of compassion, dignity, and togetherness. The evening brought warmth and festive cheer to elderly residents and their caretakers, underscoring Sunway’s commitment to uplifting underserved communities during the holy month.
Since its inception in 2014, Sunway’s flagship #SunwayforGood Raya initiative has touched the lives of more than 100,000 individuals nationwide, offering buka puasa meals, Raya gifts, grocery aid, and meaningful experiences that embody the spirit of Ramadan.
This year’s first gathering in Johor united 75 elderly residents and caretakers from Pusat Jagaan Impian Syimah and Persatuan Kebajikan Nur Ehsan Negeri Johor, including 23 bedridden residents, alongside 35 Sunway volunteers and partner representatives. The event was graced by Mohd Masni Bin Wakiman, District Officer of Johor Bahru, together with Sunway leaders Datin Paduka Sarena Cheah, Sunway Group Executive Deputy Chair, and Gerard Soosay, Sunway City Iskandar Puteri Chief Executive Officer.
Placing special emphasis on dignified care, Sunway pledged a two-month grocery contribution to support the operational needs of the elderly homes. Volunteers also spent the day offering companionship, assisting caretakers with daily tasks, serving meals, and providing personal support to bedridden residents, ensuring that compassion was expressed through physical presence and human connection.
The evening was further enlivened by local celebrities and Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF) supporters Muadz Dzulkefly and Muzzammil bin Alias, who entertained residents with a live cooking session and joined in the stirring of Bubur Asyura, a symbolic act of unity and togetherness. It followed by the presentation of Duit Raya by Sunway Group, along with the gifting of #SunwayforGood food boxes and kurma cakes.

Following Johor, Sunway Sinar Ramadan 2026 will continue its journey to Perak and Selangor, spreading Raya cheer and support through essential grocery contributions, festive gatherings, and meaningful community experiences.
Sunway will also continue to work alongside long-term partners including the Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF), Yayasan Raja Zarith Sofiah Negeri Johor, Selangor Youth Community, and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society to mobilise volunteers, strengthen bonds of community, and ensure that the spirit of Ramadan shines across Malaysia.
