Pasir Gudang Hospital (HPG), which cost RM500 million to build, will begin operating in stages next month, from 1st August 2025.
Following Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) and Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI), HPG is the third public hospital in Johor Bahru.
According to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, once HPG is fully operational in July of next year, it should be able to ease traffic at HSA and HSI.
“At the moment, HPG will begin operations on 1st August in phase one, which will prioritise 30% of core services, including the departments of general medicine and nephrology, emergency and trauma (ETS), paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G), and surgery.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) anticipates that HPG will employ over 1,800 people and be fully operational by July 2026, which will lessen the strain on HSI and HSA.
“In anticipation of operations here, our medical personnel have also started taking up positions here, especially in the main departments,” he said.
This was stated at a press conference following the project handover ceremony for Pasir Gudang Hospital.
Also present were the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health, Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad, Director-General of Public Works, Datuk Roslan Ismail, Chairman of the Johor Health and Environment Committee, Ling Tian Soon and Chairman of the Johor Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.
Covering 20.6 hectares, the HPG is situated in Bandar Seri Alam and has 14 specialised services in addition to 304 beds.
The HPG facilities comprises 50 units of nursing dormitory blocks, 36 units of staff quarter blocks with Class G, 1,507 parking lots, 320 motorcycle parking lots, and 32 parking lots for people with disabilities.
In response to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) 2 construction proposal, which aims to alleviate the hospital’s severe congestion, Dr Dzulkefly stated that preliminary works has begun.
“The MOH would like to inform you that the preliminary work for HSA 2 is currently being implemented. When it reaches the next stage, more information will be shared,” he stated.
Last month, it was reported that the HSA 2 construction project was in the final stages of developing working papers before being presented to the Cabinet for further discussion and approval of implementation.
Tian Soon was reported to have stated that progress was made after all issues concerning land ownership and preliminary work were resolved, with working papers expected to be completed last month.
The hospital construction site was identified as part of the Ministry of Defence’s land in Skudai, and permission has been granted for HSA 2 to be built.
The Federal Government approved the allocation for preliminary work during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s budget presentation.
