The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) welcomes the government’s announcement of an additional RM50 million allocation to expedite efforts in exploring new markets. This move, announced by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, highlights the Kerajaan MADANI’s commitment to ensuring Malaysia’s economic resilience and competitiveness amid global trade challenges.

In line with the Kerajaan MADANI agenda and under the leadership of MITI Minister Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, MATRADE is actively expanding Malaysia’s export footprint. While continuing to strengthen trade relations with traditional markets such as the US, China, ASEAN and the European Union (EU), MATRADE is concurrently intensifying efforts to venture into emerging markets like Latin America, Central Asia, South Asia and Africa. In 2024, Malaysia’s exports to these markets registered encouraging growths notably to South Asia and the Middle East which expanded by 11.8% and 6.3%, respectively.

Through targeted initiatives, including international trade expos, export acceleration missions, business matching programmes and the use of digital tools like the MADANI Digital Trade (MDT) platform, MATRADE is helping Malaysian exporters, particularly SMEs, to diversify into these markets as well as retain and regain trade linkages with strategic global partners.

MATRADE Chairman Dato’ Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said, “The additional RM50 million allocation is a strategic boost that will empower MATRADE to accelerate our market diversification strategy and support Malaysian businesses. We are committed to the MADANI government’s vision and will continue to innovate and leverage our resources to ensure Malaysia’s trade remains robust and competitive on the world stage.”

MATRADE strongly encourages all export-oriented companies, especially Mid-Tier Companies (MTC) and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), to leverage this opportunity and contact MATRADE for assistance in expanding globally.
