It was really great to meet the team of ibis Styles Johor Iskandar Puteri again since our last engagement during their Christmas Silver & Gold – A Night to Remember and the sTREATs luncheon and, this time I was excited to experience their buka puasa buffet, the Iftar Sa Purnama Buffet Dinner.
The charm of the buffet is the extensive choices of Asam Pedas. Many of their guests were surprised to see the different types of Asam Pedas; some with pickled spinach, some with different parts of meat, chicken, and fish. It was a thrill to see your new favourite Asam Pedas besides the well-loved Lamb Roast atop the bed of fluffy and aromatic Nasi kuzi.
I had the thrill of bone broth, or Sup Gearbox, and Sup Tulang Merah to go with my slices of baguettes – a marvellous appetiser for me before I headed for hot from the wok items.
Right at the patio, Char Kway Teow was freshly cooked for every serving; piping hot just like in Penang’s hawker stalls and kopitiam. Not far from the patio was the Pasta stall where you can choose the type of sauce you prefer.
To keep my meal balanced, I had fun scooping different Kelantanese Kerabu salads, from the Thai-influenced ones to the popular style with grated coconut like kerisik and beansprouts, to freshen my plate of carbs, red meat, and some greasy items.
I had an ice-breaking session with my friend’s daughter by making Ais Kacang together and decorating it with toppings of our favourite condiments from lychees, cendol, cincau, red beans, and various creams and syrups.
