On 15th March 2025, Jementah State Assemblywoman ADUN, Ng Kor Sim, announced that she would personally ride the first train to Segamat, Johor from KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur, to experience the journey.

“I want to experience this ETS facility for myself and see how it can benefit Segamat. This is a major development that will facilitate the movement of the people and open up more economic opportunities for this area,” she said.

She also encouraged the public to try this service, while revealing that she is in talks with KTMB to get free tickets for students as an initiative to encourage train use.

Ng described the presence of the ETS as a catalyst for Segamat’s economic growth, especially in the tourism, food and small business sectors.

“The response received has been extraordinary. Within five minutes of the tickets opening for the Segamat trip, several carriages were almost sold out. This shows that many are excited about this facility,” she said.

“I am confident that ETS will bring more visitors to Segamat, while also benefiting local businesses. We need to be ready to receive this economic spillover,” Ng added.

The ETS service to Segamat began operations on 15th March 2025, with ticket sales opening on 12th March via the KTMB Mobile application, official website and ticket kiosks. This is the first time that the ETS service, which covers the Padang Besar to Gemas route, has been extended to Johor with Segamat as the first stop in the state.

The journey to Segamat from Kuala Lumpur now only takes about two hours with ETS, compared to driving which can take up to more than four hours depending on traffic. This facility will not only save time and provide a more comfortable travel alternative, but is also expected to boost the local economy by attracting more tourists and investors to Segamat.

With easier access, small traders, homestay operators, as well as the food and tourism sectors will benefit from the increased number of visitors.

“I have received a lot of positive feedback from Segamat residents who are very excited about this service. Segamat has many attractions, from cultural heritage to unique local food. We need to ensure that visitors who come with ETS have the best experience,” she said.

“Segamat’s durian is one of the most famous in the country. With the ETS service, visitors can now go to Segamat more easily to enjoy the deliciousness of local durians for themselves as well as the various other attractions we offer,” said Ng.

She also noted that there has been a request from the public regarding the possibility of organising a second edition of the “Go Go Go Train Carnival” after the success of the first event last year.

“I am aware that many have asked about the “Go Go Go Train Carnival” for 2025. This is something we can consider as it will not only celebrate the presence of ETS, but also be a platform to promote Segamat as a major tourist destination,” she said.

Ng said the ETS service to Segamat marked a new chapter for the city, opening up more opportunities in the tourism sector and the local economy.
