Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards’ (IMSHA) Winner, Yayasan Suria JB Care (YSJBC) hosted a Deepavali celebration with Tasek 64 Flats at Seri Alam, Masai’s families in need.
It is a part of their annual celebrations, along with Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Christmas respectively, especially for the B40 community that have less than enough to celebrate.
“It wasn’t anything extravagant—just humble food aid, rice, and Deepavali money packets with RM50.00 inside. But for the underprivileged, these small gestures meant the world to them, especially for our Hindu friends who are celebrating the festival,” said James Ho, Founder and Chairman of YSJBC.
“True to our colourblind approach, we didn’t just stop there, and included 6 Malay families and 4 Chinese families, alongside 26 Hindu families, making this celebration even more meaningful.”
“What really touched us was the heartfelt appreciation from the Chinese and Malay families, who felt included in this Deepavali celebration. We treated them as though they were part of the festival, and the gratitude on their faces as they received the food aid and the “Duit Deepavali” was simply priceless,” James said, elaborating that every family received an RM50 as their “Duit Deepavali”.
“To me, this is the true spirit of 1 Malaysia. As we distributed the food aid and money, I couldn’t help but become teary-eyed, witnessing the harmony, togetherness, and unity among all races. It was a beautiful moment of celebrating each other’s diversity!”
“The mingling of different races during the event today restored my hope and belief that Malaysia can truly prosper when we put race and religion aside,” he shared.
