Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Johor State Government, has launched the YES! Rock The School Johor Mega Edition to help students prepare for future leadership positions.

This initiative aims to improve the employability of Johor students by providing industry-relevant skills and developing leadership and problem-solving abilities, ensuring that they are prepared for future job markets.

Aznan Bin Tamin, Chairman of the Johor State Education and Information Committee, praised the programme, emphasising its importance in preparing students for opportunities in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), which is expected to generate 100,000 high-quality jobs.

Over two days, 600 students from 34 schools in Johor Bahru, Kulai, and Pontian took part in activities aimed at improving employability and leadership skills. The programme emphasised the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digitalisation.

Wong Shu Qi, Chairman of TalentCorp Group of Companies, emphasised the strategic importance of aligning educational programmes with industry needs to enhance Johor’s economic growth and Malaysia’s global competitiveness.

The programme included the YES! Counsellors initiative, which trained 67 school counsellors to better guide students. Additionally, 60 Universiti Teknologi Malaysia students volunteered as facilitators, gaining leadership experience.

Government and industry representatives, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), Microsoft, Western Digital, Venture Technocom, and Virtualtech Frontier, took part in promoting young talent development.

This is consistent with the National Education Blueprint and the National Digital Education Blueprint, which focus on transforming education to meet future challenges.

Following its debut this year in Pahang in July and Johor in August, the YES! Rock The School Mega Edition will travel to Penang in September, continuing to provide Malaysian youth with the skills they need to reduce underemployment and unemployment.
