Around 2000 people attended a series of Jelajah Saya Digital (JSD) programmes held at Angsana Mall Johor Bahru, over the course of two days on the 26th and 27th of July, organised by the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the nation’s premier agency for the digital economy and the head of the Ministry of Digital (KD).

Aligned with the goals of Maju Johor 2030, the state government’s plan to guarantee the resilience of the state’s economy for the benefit of Johor citizens, including the adoption of digital initiatives, the JSD programme opened its door for the community to enhance its digital literacy, and gave more people to become employed in the digital sector.

In an effort to better equip Malaysians to meet the challenges of the digital age, the ‘Saya Digital’ campaign was launched at the close of 2020. Through the use of digital platforms, this initiative also aims to empower people to manage the cost of living.

By offering equal opportunities to those living in urban areas and rural areas alike, this campaign raised awareness of the value of digital technology and smart lifestyle solutions.

Saya Digital Literacy, Saya Digital Business, Saya Digital Freelance, and Saya Digital Career are the four main cores of the JSD initiative that benefits the target groups; which include the B40 category, unemployed graduates, seniors, people with disabilities, school students, universities, and micro, small and medium-sized entrepreneurs (SME).

Through the JSD programme, MDEC offers the eUsahawan and MyDigitalMake programmes. By creating cumulative sales of more than RM1.26 billion, MDEC’s eEntrepreneurship programme has successfully trained 564,629 students nationwide in Higher Education Institutions (HEI), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, and entrepreneurship.

When this JSD programme was first introduced at the end of 2020, it visited 68 locations and effectively trained 27,154 participants from all over the nation as of June 2024. The JSD programme will be offered in 31 locations this year, with 40,000 participants overall being the goal set by MDEC.

MDEC and strategic partner sharing sessions, training sessions, digital and cyber literacy clinics, exhibition stands, and other engaging events like raffles and eSports competitions are just a few of the activities that are conducted. The attendees also benefited from a sharing session on the application of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) in education as well as security tips to avoid online fraud.

The JSD @ Johor Bahru event was jointly officiated by Aznan Bin Tamin, Chairman of the Johor State Education and Information Committee, and Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, Chairman of the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

MDEC’s strategic partners for JSD @ Johor Bahru namely the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), TM-Unifi Business and PDRM, also held a partnership session in this event.
