Building on the success of the previous year’s Recycling Fantastic Campaign, Coca-Cola Malaysia is launching the ‘Recycle Me!’ Campaign, an initiative to encourage and reward Malaysians for recycling their plastic bottles across five states in the country, in collaboration with AEON Malaysia, Hiroyuki Industries, and a new partner, Trash4Cash.
One of the most important parts of Coca-Cola Malaysia’s continuous efforts to ensure that bottles have a second life and to promote the circularity of its packaging in order to reduce plastic waste is the “Recycle Me!” Campaign. Aiming to collect and recycle the equivalent of every bottle and can it sells by 2030, The Coca-Cola Company released its global ‘World Without Waste Vision in 2018’.
Scheduled to take place from 14 December 2023 to 29 February 2024, the ‘Recycle Me!’ Campaign urges the public to collect PET bottles in exchange for cash rewards based on their contributions. For every 10 PET bottles deposited, participants will be eligible for a RM0.10 Trash4Cash buy-back incentive, complemented by exclusive Coca-Cola merchandise.
A notable addition to this year’s campaign is the integration of Smart Recycle Bins through the partnership with Trash4Cash. This innovative approach enables consumers to conveniently deposit PET bottles at any time during the campaign period, eliminating the need for staff to be stationed at collection points.
Triyono Prijosoesilo, Director PACS West Franchise Operation, Coca-Cola Malaysia stated, “We’re on a mission to collect more empty bottles so we can make new ones. The ‘Recycle Me!’ Campaign builds on last year’s accomplishments, and we’re thrilled to introduce our new partners and expand our reach to involve more communities. Our collaboration with AEON Malaysia, Hiroyuki Industries, and our new partner Trash4Cash will create more opportunities to educate the public about sorting at the source, and provide them with direct access to return our bottles.”
“We at AEON Malaysia recognise that our role extends beyond the traditional retail landscape, reaching into the heart of communities we serve. Together, we hope to drive awareness and action among the public about the importance of plastic segregation and recycling, demonstrating the strength that comes from collaboration and collective action,” said Dr Kasuma Satria bin Mat Jadi, Chief Human Resources & Sustainability Officer, AEON Malaysia.
Through the ‘Recycle Me!’ Campaign, we aim to educate the public that plastic is not a waste; it holds great value if collected and processed appropriately,” said Lionel Choong, Executive Director, Hiroyuki Industries.
This year, Coca-Cola and its partners are expanding their efforts to 15 AEON malls across five states – Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor. To further simplify the deposit process, consumers can now scan the QR code on the Smart Recycle Bin to provide their details. Organisers will then reach out to facilitate the rewarding process, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for all participants.
“We believe that sourcing resources is the best solution to the waste problem. The public should understand that some post-consumer packaging has value, so it’s important for us to reintegrate it into the recycling value chain. Trash4Cash’s vision is to help communities give back their post-consumer packaging as a step towards taking better care of our environment,” stated Shafreez Redza bin Mhd Saiful Anuar, Chief Executive Officer, Trash4Cash.
