The JCorp Foundation had organised a coral reef rehabilitation programme in Pulau Aur, Mersing, Johor, involving 40 employees from JCorp and Group Companies for the first time, from the 13th to the 15th of October 2023.
The JCorp Foundation established a Coral Nursery through this programme, which involves the care and breeding of certain coral reef species using ethical methods to ensure environmental sustainability, as well as providing awareness and education to the local community about the importance of coral reef conservation and marine resources.
It is an effort by the foundation to strengthen its environmental focus area by educating and raising public awareness about environmental preservation and conservation, including marine life.
Zaidatul Zurita Abdul Rahman, the head of the JCorp Foundation, stated that the JCorp Foundation has implemented several environmental sustainability programmes this year, including mangrove tree planting in Tanjung Piai, Pontian, and river cleaning in Kampung Sungai Melayu and Kampung Pendas, Johor Bahru.
“This coral reef conservation is the third successful activity for the JCorp Foundation’s environmental focus area for this year and was participated in by JCorp employees and group companies.”
This initiative also supports the state government’s efforts to protect the coral reef area in Taman Laut in Johor waters from extinction while also adding value to the tourism industry in the Mersing district’s islands.
“This programme is also attended by the Johor Media Club, with a total of 5 people. We at JCorp Foundation very much welcome the presence of this media club and hope that this kind of collaboration can continue in the future,” she added.
In conjunction with this programme, Yayasan JCorp used the opportunity to hold community activities with the residents of Pulau Aur.
Among the successful activities are the cleaning of beach areas and cemeteries, open cooking events, and cash donations to 38 families on the island.
One of the community activities under the JCorp Foundation’s Community Wellbeing focus area is the gotong-royong programme with the islanders. This activity indirectly strengthens relationships with the local community.
Yayasan JCorp, in its statement, said it is always committed to holding various activities and initiatives related to its four main focus areas, which are education, arts, culture, and heritage; environment; and community wellbeing.
Among the JCorp Group companies involved in the coral reef rehabilitation programme are Kulim (M) Berhad, KPJ Healthcare Berhad, QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd, JLand Group Sdn Bhd, Damansara Holdings Berhad, and also Yayasan JCorp.
