Johor Exco Visits the 93% Completed Gemas-Johor Bahru Electric Double Track Project

On the Malaysian ETS line, which runs from Padang Besar to Gemas, the state of Johor is the final stop

The construction of the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electric Double Track Project (PLBEGJB) which was built as a continuation of the existing line of electric double tracks in Malaysia, has now achieved progress of 93.44% as of the end of August 2023.

The 192-kilometer modern transport system will pass through 11 stations, including Segamat, Genuang, Labis, Bekok, Paloh, Kluang, Mengkibol, Renggam, Layang-Layang, Kulai, and Kempas Baru, allowing Johor residents to enjoy the electric train service system (ETS) with a speed of 160 kilometres per hour and an estimated travel time of three hours and 30 minutes from KL Sentral to JB Sentral.

On the Malaysian ETS line, which runs from Padang Besar in Perlis to Gemas in Negeri Sembilan, the state of Johor is the final stop.

The goal of this project is to increase the frequency of train services, with an estimated 22 services per day, increase train safety, promote increased passenger traffic with an estimated train capacity of 346 seats, and also promote the development of new existing cities and the tourism industry.

At Segamat station, a site visit was held with a briefing by the project owner, the Malaysian Ministry of Transport, and implementation by the project contractor, SIPP-YTL, to monitor the status of the project’s construction at the station site for logistics and passenger use.

A Coordination Task Force team led by Ir. Ts. Mohamad Fazli Salleh, Chairman of the Johor Public Works, Transport, and Infrastructure Committee, who also oversaw the project site visit session in Segamat, is dedicated to helping the Johor State Government launch the PLBEGJB project.

Until August 2023, a total of 21 Task Force members for the project PLBEGJB consisted of representatives from the Office of the Johor Menteri Besar, EXCO Offices, Ministry of Transport Malaysia, State Government Departments, related Agencies, Local Authorities and SIPP-YTL as the main contractor.

Raven Kumar Krishnasamy, Chairman of the Johor State Tourism, Environment, Heritage, and Culture Committee; TPr Saidin Lateh, Director of PLANMalaysia Johor; Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin, CEO of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM Berhad); and Datuk Seri Azmi bin Abd Aziz, Director of SIPP-YTL are also present during the site visit.
