Marriott International announced a hotel management deal with SKS Group to open the 345-room Sheraton Johor Bahru, which will be the first Sheraton property in Malaysia’s southern jewel. Following the Four Points by Sheraton Desaru, which opened in 2021, this is the second property signed in conjunction with SKS Group.

Sheraton Johor Bahru, which is set to debut in 2025, seeks to draw on the brand’s history as a gathering place for both locals and guests in communities throughout the world. Sheraton Johor Bahru, part of a mixed-use development that includes a retail podium and office spaces, is expected to be well placed along Jalan Storey, with direct access to Tebrau Highway, which connects to various regions of the state and beyond.

“We are thrilled to build on our relationship with SKS Group, this time to bring the Sheraton brand to Johor Bahru. We value and foster our long-term relationships with our community of owners and strive to continue creating mutually beneficial opportunities. The Sheraton brand has a rich heritage in creating a sense of belonging for guests, wherever they are in the world and Sheraton Johor Bahru expects to be no different. With its strategic location and high accessibility, the hotel aims to attract both business and leisure guests and offer its signature community experience,” said Shawn Hill, Chief Development Officer, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International.

Nearby transport amenities include the Johor Bahru Sentral Bus Terminal and the Bukit Chagar Johor Bahru – Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Station, which is expected to be finished by the end of 2026.

“We are very excited to collaborate with Marriott International again to introduce the first Sheraton hotel in Johor Bahru and have this new addition in our hospitality portfolio,” said Simon Sim, Executive Director of SKS Group. “The hotel design will be an excellent fit for business and leisure travelers, and coupled with its strategic location, we are confident that Sheraton Johor Bahru will be well-received by guests and locals alike when it opens its doors in 2025.”

The hotel lobby is planned to illustrate the brand’s global design transformation, where guests can experience a comprehensive public space meant to make them feel welcome and engage with others in distinctive and innovative ways, reinforcing the Sheraton’s role as a community hub.

Daily Social, an open kitchen buffet restaurant, and more by Sheraton, a combination bar, coffee bar, and market with an all-day menu offering everything from coffee to cocktails, are among the hotel’s dining options.

An outdoor pool, a children’s pool, and a Fitness Centre with a state-of-the-art gym, sauna, and steam rooms are also planned for the site. The hotel is scheduled to include a big ballroom as well as flexible and fully equipped conference room spaces, making it ideal for both grand and small occasions.
