Johor Smart City Forum (JSCF) 2023, organised by the Johor state government through PLANMalaysia@Johor (Jabatan Perancangan Bandar dan Desa Negeri Johor) in cooperation with the local governments and various stakeholders from 12th to 14th June served as a platform to discuss its plans for digital transformation through the Johor Smart City Blueprint 2030.
In order to engage all interested parties in an open, inclusive, formal and informal debate regarding difficulties linked to smart cities, the conference brought together industry professionals, service providers, government agencies, academia, and NGOs.
Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, said the Johor State Smart City Action Plan 2030 outlined seven components as the main focus to realise the wish.
“The first focus is ‘Smart Government’ which enables the people (in this state) to access government services online and also symbolise the level of integrity, accountability and transparency of the agency, adding that the state government is also focusing on producing highly skilled digital talent to encourage innovation and meet the needs of the industry under ‘Smart People,” said Onn Hafiz at the launch ceremony of the Johor Smart City Forum 2023 at the Johor Persada International Convention Centre.
The opening ceremony of the Johor Smart City Forum (JSCF) 2023 was officiated by Her Highness, Tunku Tun Aminah Binti Sultan Ibrahim.
Also present were the Secretary of the Johor Government, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Haji Azmi Rohani and the Chairman of the Housing and Local Government Committee, Dato’ Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.
Onn Hafiz added that a total of 55 smart city pilot projects will be ‘quick win’ projects to be implemented by 16 Local Authorities (PBT) in Johor.
“Each PBT and the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) will have pilot projects in their respective areas. If the implementation of the pilot project is successfully adapted, then it will be implemented in other PBT-PBT as appropriate,” he said.
He also highlighted six other components that make Johor a smart city, namely Smart People, Smart Economy, Smart Living, Smart Mobility, Smart Environment and Smart Digital Infrastructure.
“It is my hope that the JSCF 2023 program will succeed in formulating a complete strategy by taking into account the 4 million Johor people,” he said.
