A total of 68 children between the ages of 7 and 12 from underprivileged families including 16 disabled students from the Special Integration Education Programme (PPKI) studying at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pasir Gudang 2 were invited by KPJ Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital for their ‘Belanja Raya, Kasih Ramadan’ at Jakel, Johor Bahru.
A total of RM10,000 was allotted by KPJ Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital through the Specialist Doctors’ Welfare Fund to buy holiday clothes for the children in preparation for the Hari Raya.
Chairman of the KPJ Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital Doctors’ Welfare Fund, Dr Nor Aizal Che Hamzah said, “This programme of buying Raya clothes is a common activity that is done every time before Hari Raya Aidilfitri to help less abled families as well as cheer them up to celebrate the festival with joy.
He further explained that, in the current economic situation, there are families who are forced to forget the desire to buy new Raya clothes due to financial constraints and the family’s income.
“As we know after the COVID-19 pandemic there are families who are trying to increase their family income and the prices of goods are also increasing, therefore, this annual initiative through the Doctors’ Welfare Fund, has abled us to help underprivileged children to ease the burden on their families and be able to welcome Syawal happily like other children”, he said when met after the ceremony.
In addition to Hari Raya clothing, the hospital management also delivered food packs as a break-the-fast meal and also Raya money to cheer the children.
Chief Executive Officer of KPJ Pasir Gudang, Khairul Hasanain Abdul Hamid said this CSR programme is synonymous with the hospital’s annual activities where they always try to contribute back to the local community in need in the form of corporate social responsibility programmes.
A total of 20 members of the frontline workers of KPJ Pasir Gudang helped pamper the children to choose the festive clothes.
This CSR programme has been organised since 2015 and it is one of the initiatives of the Specialist Doctors’ Welfare Fund to share joy and cheer orphans, single mothers and the asnaf group. Among the assistance that has been extended are donations to the homeless, orphanages, homes for the elderly, children with disabilities, assistance with daily necessities to low-income families and houses of worship of various races.
