Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the Johor Menteri Besar, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between four Local Authorities (PBT) in ‘The Greater Johor Bahru’ area and the Johor Professional Association (DECCO+).

Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB), Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG), and Kulai Municipal Council are the four PBTs involved (MPKu).

According to him, through the collaboration, DECCO+ will collaborate, offer value, and contribute ideas to PBT in order to drive local development to a level comparable to established cities in other nations.

“The result of this joint venture can also help bring transformation to the services and administration of PBT that will have a positive impact on the people, in addition to highlighting the potential of each area under The Greater JB,” Onn Hafiz said in a statement.

“This includes maximising the capacity of Johor Bahru as a trade and business hub and the country’s international border gate; Iskandar Puteri as the Johor Government’s administrative centre, a hub for education, investment, and international tourism, Pasir Gudang as a heavy industry hub and an international port, and Kulai as a modern industrial city and the state’s air gateway,” he added.

According to Onn Hafiz, the collaboration would assure consistency and seamless development, which will be managed by MBJB, MBIP, MBPG, and MPKu.

“This includes taking note of other important matters in the development of an area such as cleaning issues, efficient public infrastructure and so on.

“The spillover effect will certainly not only make The Greater JB a focal point for the economy and the public, but the progress that will be made will contribute to the quality of life and well-being of the Johor Nation for the future,” he said.

DECCO+ consists of nine associations which are the Malaysian Architects Association Southern Chapter (PAMSo), Real Estate & Housing Developers’ Association (REHDA), Institution of Engineers Malaysia Southern Branch (IEMSB), Johor Master Builders Association (JMBA), Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM), Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP), Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM), Malaysian Arborist Association (PArM), as well as the Association of Consulting Architects Malaysia (ACAM).
